Jabari Talbot
In February 2019, the then Lakeland, Florida sixth-grader Jabari Talbot was arrested for not standing for The Pledge of Allegiance. Talbot was sent to the school's main office after a verbal dispute with his substitute teacher, in which she responded to Talbot by asking why he wouldn't "leave the country," if he felt so strongly about The Pledge and the flag. Talbot was arrested onsite by the school resource officer. Roc Nation and Team Roc enlisted the assistance of attorney Alex Spiro of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP. Upon the case's dismissal, Talbot's mother thanked Roc Nation, saying, “My son and I are grateful for all the athletes, entertainers, Roc Nation and community of supporters that have raised awareness about this injustice and showed their support—both publicly and privately,” she said.
